Toledo Safe Routes to School

Objective: Improving access to physical activity through Safe Routes to School

Safe Routes to School Initiative

Safe Routes to School (SRTS) is a national and international movement to create safe, convenient, and fun opportunities for children to engage in active transportation, such as walking and bicycling to and from schools.

In the Greater Toledo Community, Live Well Greater Toledo is focusing on SRTS to increase neighborhood safety and to provide more access to physical activity. As a part of SRTS, Live Well is working together to create a School Travel Plan. A Travel Plan is a written document that outlines a school community’s intentions for making travel to and from school more safe and sustainable.

Active4.Me

Active4.Me is coming to many TPS Elementary Schools this fall! Active4.Me is a free program that encourages students to walk or bike to school and earn COOL PRIZES!

How does it work?

  • Tracks participation in Walk & Roll Wednesdays and your school’s mileage club
  • Rewards students for being active
  • Provides instant notification to parents via text or email that their student has arrived to school safely
